TRAINING & EDUCATION

I have a wide repertoire to meet individuals and couples where they are.

As a licensed clinical psychologist and certified sex therapist, I have experience and training focused on assessing and treating a complex range of mental health issues and symptoms.

I feel deeply honored to have been trained by amazing mentors and supervisors over the years and to continually learn every day as this field and humanity evolves. What sets me apart and what I’ve found to be extremely helpful in meeting my diverse clients’ needs is the varied nature of the treatment approaches I learned while practicing in New York hospitals and the NHS and Oxford in the UK.

During graduate school, I studied and worked extensively in the more traditional, interpersonal, and past-focused psychodynamic therapy with roots in Freudian psychotherapy. After licensure, I studied at the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre from 2011-2012, training in the newer, more present-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a joyful meditative approach called Mindfulness. In 2012, during an intensive training weekend with Paul Gilbert, I began more formal training and supervision in Compassion-Focused Therapy that I’ve continued using ever since. More recently, over the past four years, I’ve directed my continued education more towards intimacy and human sexuality and Sex Therapy has become a major practice focus for me in individual, couples, and group therapy work.

As I get further in my career, I notice ingredients for change that are less compartmentalized into separate ‘silos’ of therapeutic modalities and populations. This feels particularly true with the groundswell of neurobiological and evolutionary psychology literature pointing to the utility of adaptive meditative techniques that reset our nervous system.

Depending on what issues bring you in and your learning style, I draw from all of these different evidence-based approaches to tailor our treatment formulation to best suit your needs. Learn more about them on my Approach page.

By learning to be present and accepting in our daily lives, we get to live more fully in each moment.
